Description
Château La Clotte 2011 is a traditionally styled Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé from a historic estate located on the limestone slopes of the appellation. The vineyard’s terroir—combining limestone, clay, and sand—gives the wine its signature balance of structure, minerality, and supple fruit expression.
The 2011 vintage in Bordeaux produced wines of classic proportions rather than sheer power, and La Clotte reflects this profile well. The nose opens with red cherry, raspberry, and blackcurrant, complemented by more savoury and developed notes of tobacco leaf, cedar, and subtle smoky spice. A gentle earthy, almost forest-floor character begins to emerge with time in the glass.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with a round, polished texture. The tannins are fine and well integrated, giving shape without harshness. The fruit is now partially evolved, leaning toward a more savoury profile, while hints of graphite, dried herbs, and mineral undertones add depth. A fresh line of acidity keeps the wine lifted and harmonious through the finish.
Now at a mature stage, Château La Clotte 2011 shows its charm through elegance rather than intensity, making it a graceful, food-friendly Saint-Émilion. It pairs well with roast poultry, lamb, mushroom-based dishes, or soft cheeses. A quietly expressive Grand Cru Classé that showcases the more classical, restrained side of Right Bank Bordeaux.
