Description
There are few things more evocative of Bordeaux than a traditional wooden case of wine. This collection brings together six bottles of Château Talbot 2020, one of the great names of Saint-Julien, beautifully presented as a complete six-bottle case.
Château Talbot is a 4th Classified Growth of the 1855 Classification, with an impressive vineyard of almost 100 hectares in a single block in the heart of Saint-Julien. Its gravelly Médoc soils are particularly well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, helping the château produce wines known for their combination of structure, generosity and elegance.
The 2020 vintage is a particularly fascinating Talbot. Cabernet Sauvignon takes an unusually prominent role, accounting for 76% of the blend, alongside 21% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot — the highest proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon ever used at the estate. The grapes were harvested by hand, carefully sorted and the wine was aged for 15 months in oak, with 60% new barrels.
In the glass, the wine is deep and expressive, with blackcurrant, blackberry, plum and dark cherry, accompanied by violet, graphite, cedar, tobacco and subtle spice. The palate is concentrated yet remarkably composed, with polished tannins and a fresh, savoury character that keeps the wine energetic rather than heavy. The finish is long, precise and beautifully persistent.
The 2020 vintage has already attracted considerable critical attention, with the Guide Hachette describing it as a particularly accomplished Talbot, highlighting its silky tannins, freshness and exceptional length. Other critics have similarly noted the wine’s balance, refinement and considerable ageing potential.
And then there is the presentation.
The six bottles are presented together in a wooden case, giving the collection the traditional appearance of a château allocation. Rather than six bottles simply grouped together, the case creates a sense of occasion — something that looks equally at home in a wine cellar, beneath a Christmas tree or presented as a prestigious corporate or personal gift.
Six bottles also offer the pleasure of following the vintage over time. The 2020 has the structure and freshness to evolve beautifully in bottle, allowing you to enjoy one bottle now and return to the case over the coming years as the wine develops increasingly complex notes of cedar, tobacco, spice and savoury earth.
This is classic Left Bank Bordeaux at its most appealing: Cabernet-driven, structured but polished, powerful without heaviness, and unmistakably Saint-Julien.
