Description

Château Lamartine “Tandem” 2024 is a contemporary expression of Cahors Malbec, crafted by the Gayraud family at their historic, organically farmed estate in Soturac, in the western part of the appellation. The vineyard sits on limestone-rich terraces of the Lot Valley, a terroir that brings freshness and tension to a region traditionally known for power and structure.

“Tandem” is conceived as a modern, fruit-forward Cahors, designed to highlight purity and drinkability rather than extraction. The 2024 vintage is vinified with a focus on gentle extraction and preservation of fruit, including short maceration and low-intervention practices that aim to retain vibrancy and finesse.

In the glass, it shows a deep garnet colour with purple highlights, reflecting both concentration and youthful energy. The nose is immediately expressive, opening with ripe black cherry, blackberry, and red plum, lifted by a characteristic hint of menthol and fresh herbs. Subtle spice notes add further complexity without weighing down the fruit profile.

On the palate, the wine is smooth and juicy, with a rounded texture that makes it highly approachable. The tannins are fine and well-integrated, providing structure without austerity, while fresh acidity gives lift and balance. Flavours of dark berries and red fruit dominate, followed by a lightly mineral, gently spicy finish that keeps the wine lively and engaging.

Compared to more traditional, powerful Cahors styles, “Tandem” is deliberately more immediate and fruit-driven, with an emphasis on freshness and ease of drinking. It reflects the estate’s broader philosophy of combining tradition with modern precision, making Malbec more accessible without losing its identity.

This is a versatile food wine, ideal with grilled meats, charcuterie, roast chicken, burgers, and lightly spiced dishes. It can also be enjoyed slightly chilled for a more casual, summery style of red.

Overall, Château Lamartine “Tandem” 2024 is a vibrant, contemporary Cahors: less about weight and tannin, more about fruit clarity, freshness, and pure drinking pleasure.
