Description

Hervé Kerlann’s Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru “Les Corbeaux” 2022 comes from one of the well-regarded climats of the northern Côte de Nuits, just above the village of Gevrey-Chambertin. “Les Corbeaux” is known for producing wines that combine the structural power typical of Gevrey with a slightly more lifted, elegant aromatic profile thanks to its higher altitude and limestone-rich soils.

The 2022 vintage in Burgundy is marked by balance and generosity, offering wines with ripe fruit expression, supple textures and a naturally approachable style, while still maintaining good definition and freshness. In this context, “Les Corbeaux” delivers a particularly harmonious expression of Premier Cru Pinot Noir, where purity of fruit and finesse take precedence over austerity.

The vineyard is planted on classic Côte de Nuits limestone and marl soils, which provide both depth and mineral tension. These geological conditions, combined with careful vineyard selection, contribute to the wine’s structure and ageing potential, while still allowing for aromatic lift and precision. The site’s altitude also helps preserve freshness, even in warmer vintages like 2022.

In the cellar, winemaking follows a restrained and traditional approach, with careful fermentation to ensure gentle extraction and preserve aromatic clarity. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels, with a measured proportion of new wood to add subtle spice and texture without overshadowing the fruit. The goal is to highlight the identity of the Premier Cru terroir while maintaining balance and drinkability.

In the glass, the 2022 reveals a bright ruby colour and an expressive bouquet of ripe cherry, raspberry and blackberry, complemented by floral notes of violet and subtle hints of clove, earth and fine oak spice. The palate is supple and layered, with silky tannins and a vibrant acidity that brings energy and length. The finish is elegant and persistent, showing both the generosity of the vintage and the underlying structure of the terroir.

A graceful yet structured Premier Cru, “Les Corbeaux” 2022 is approachable in its youth while offering clear ageing potential. It pairs beautifully with roast poultry, duck, game birds or earthy mushroom dishes, and reflects the refined, terroir-driven side of Gevrey-Chambertin.
