Description
Maison Lacourte-Godbillon is a grower winery based in Écueil, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, where Géraldine Lacourte and Richard Desvignes focus exclusively on Premier Cru vineyards. Their philosophy is rooted in attentive vineyard work and minimal intervention in the cellar, with organic practices adopted in recent years and a strong emphasis on expressing the individuality of each parcel.
“Mont Âme – Migerats” 2016 is a true parcellaire Champagne, crafted from two distinct lieux-dits planted in the 1960s from massal selections. Mont Âme, located in nearby Les Mesneux, is defined by chalk-dominant soils that bring tension and mineral lift, while Migerats in Écueil contributes clay-rich depth and structure. The wine is composed entirely of Pinot Noir, highlighting the variety’s ability to translate both power and finesse within a single cuvée.
Vinification takes place in oak barrels, followed by an extended maturation of over six years on the lees, enhancing complexity and texture. Bottled with no dosage (Brut Nature), the wine remains pure and incisive, allowing the terroir to speak without embellishment. Production is extremely limited, with fewer than 2,000 bottles made, underscoring its artisanal character.
In the glass, the 2016 reveals a layered and expressive profile: aromas of ripe apple, pear, citrus zest and toasted almond unfold alongside subtle spice and brioche notes. The palate is both structured and elegant, driven by a fine mousse and a chalky, saline backbone that brings freshness and length. The interplay between richness and tension makes it a compelling gastronomic Champagne, equally suited to refined seafood, creamy dishes, or simply enjoyed on its own as a contemplative wine.
A precise, terroir-driven expression of Premier Cru Écueil, “Mont Âme – Migerats” 2016 captures the depth of old-vine Pinot Noir while retaining remarkable clarity and energy.
