Description

Mas de Boislauzon, a long-established family estate in the southern Rhône near Orange, is today run by the Chaussy family, representing six generations of growers. Known for their certified organic practices and careful vineyard management, they craft wines that balance the power typical of Châteauneuf-du-Pape with a sense of precision and terroir expression. Alongside their classic cuvées, they produce a small number of special bottlings, among which “Quet” stands as one of the most distinctive.

The name “Quet” refers to the historic designation of the Boislauzon lieu-dit, appearing on local maps more than two centuries ago. This cuvée is only produced in the best vintages, underscoring its role as a selection of the domaine’s finest fruit.

The blend is dominated by very old Grenache vines—often approaching or exceeding 80–100 years of age—complemented by Mourvèdre. These low-yielding vines produce highly concentrated fruit, giving the wine its depth and complexity. Typically around 75–80% Grenache and 20–25% Mourvèdre, the composition highlights both the generosity of Grenache and the structure and spice of Mourvèdre.

Vinification and ageing are tailored to preserve both richness and balance. The wine is often aged in a mix of large oak vessels (foudres) and demi-muids, allowing for gentle oxygenation without overwhelming the fruit. This approach enhances texture and aromatic complexity while maintaining the wine’s intrinsic power and identity.

In the glass, “Quet” is deeply coloured and intensely expressive, with aromas of black raspberry, cassis and blueberry layered with notes of Provençal herbs, spice, leather and subtle smoky undertones. The palate is full-bodied and richly textured, yet retains balance through firm tannins and underlying freshness. Its concentration and structure give it impressive ageing potential, often evolving over decades into a more savoury, complex expression.

A benchmark cuvée for the estate, “Quet” captures the essence of old-vine Châteauneuf-du-Pape: powerful yet refined, deeply rooted in its terroir, and built to age with grace.
