Description
“Montmajou” 2024 is a precise and characterful white wine from Domaine Les Eminades, an estate founded in 2002 by Patricia and Luc Bettoni in the Saint-Chinian appellation. Certified organic (AB) and biodynamic (Biodyvin), the domaine has become a benchmark for thoughtful, terroir-driven wines in the Languedoc, combining meticulous vineyard work with low-intervention winemaking.
This cuvée comes from clay-limestone soils, with parcels situated at different altitudes—around 300 metres for the Grenache Blanc and 220 metres for the Marsanne—bringing both ripeness and freshness to the final blend. The wine is composed of 80% Grenache Blanc (from 35-year-old vines) and 20% Marsanne (30-year-old vines). Vineyard work is entirely focused on soil health, with no herbicides used, manual harvesting in small crates, and careful sorting to ensure optimal fruit quality. Yields are kept low, around 32 hl/ha, enhancing concentration and expression.
In the cellar, the approach remains natural and precise: direct pressing, gentle settling, and spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine is quickly transferred to 400L barrels, where it matures for 11 months on its lees. This élevage brings texture, depth and subtle complexity without overpowering the fruit.
The 2024 vintage shows a beautifully layered aromatic profile, with notes of ripe pear, quince and white peach, evolving towards hints of almond, dried flowers and light toasty nuances. On the palate, it is full and structured, with a silky, almost creamy texture balanced by a fine freshness and a mineral tension that carries through to a long, elegant finish.
“Montmajou” is a true food wine, pairing wonderfully with roasted poultry, rich fish dishes, creamy sauces or aged cheeses. Best served around 14°C, it also offers strong ageing potential, developing further complexity over 5 to 8 years. Production remains limited, with only around 8,000 bottles made each vintage, underlining its artisanal and distinctive character.
