Description
Domaine Rossignol is a traditional Côte de Beaune estate known for producing wines that favour balance, finesse and a clear expression of terroir. With a restrained approach to winemaking, the domaine focuses on preserving fruit purity and structure, crafting Pinot Noir that reflects the character of each appellation without excess weight or extraction.
The Aloxe-Corton 2021 comes from vineyards located at the northern end of the Côte de Beaune, in a village known for producing some of the most structured and robust reds of the area. Compared to neighbouring appellations like Volnay, Aloxe-Corton typically delivers wines with more firmness and a slightly more rustic edge, balanced by underlying freshness and minerality.
The 2021 vintage in Burgundy is marked by its cooler conditions, resulting in wines of moderate alcohol, bright acidity and a more classic, tension-driven profile. In this context, the Aloxe-Corton shows a fresher, more lifted expression, with emphasis on precision and structure rather than richness.
The vineyards are planted on limestone and clay soils, often with a higher proportion of stones, which contribute to the wine’s firm backbone and mineral character. Domaine Rossignol’s parcels reflect this identity, producing a Pinot Noir that balances structure with aromatic clarity.
In the cellar, the approach remains traditional: hand-harvested fruit, careful sorting and controlled fermentation with gentle extraction. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels, with a moderate use of new wood to provide subtle spice and texture while allowing the fruit to remain central.
In the glass, the 2021 reveals a bright ruby colour and an aromatic profile of red cherry, cranberry and wild berries, complemented by notes of pepper, earth and light oak spice. The palate is medium-bodied and structured, with firm yet fine tannins and a lively acidity that gives the wine energy and length. The finish is precise and slightly savoury, reflecting the classic style of the vintage and appellation.
A characterful and food-friendly Burgundy, this Aloxe-Corton is well suited to dishes such as roast poultry, pork or mushroom-based cuisine. Approachable with a little air yet capable of short- to mid-term ageing, it offers a clear and authentic expression of both terroir and vintage.
