Description
Domaine Lafouge, based in Auxey-Duresses, is a respected family estate run by the Lafouge family, known for producing wines that emphasise purity, balance and terroir expression. With a long history in the Côte de Beaune, the domaine works sustainably in the vineyards and follows a measured approach in the cellar, aiming to craft wines that are both authentic and approachable.
The Meursault 2023 is sourced from parcels within the appellation, where Chardonnay thrives on classic clay-limestone soils. These soils contribute to the wine’s hallmark combination of richness and mineral tension, a defining feature of Meursault. Compared to some more opulent styles, Domaine Lafouge’s interpretation leans toward freshness and precision, offering a more restrained and elegant expression of the appellation.
The 2023 vintage in Burgundy is marked by good balance, with ripe fruit and lively acidity, resulting in wines that are both expressive and approachable. In Meursault, this translates into a style that combines immediate appeal with underlying structure and clarity.
Vinification is carried out in a traditional Burgundian manner, with fermentation and ageing in French oak barrels, typically using a moderate proportion of new oak. Lees ageing enhances texture and complexity, while careful oak management ensures that the wine retains its freshness and varietal purity.
In the glass, the 2023 reveals a bright golden colour and an expressive aromatic profile of lemon zest, pear and apple, layered with notes of white flowers, hazelnut and a touch of toast. The palate is both supple and precise, with a rounded texture balanced by fresh acidity and a fine mineral backbone that brings energy and length. The finish is clean, slightly saline and elegantly persistent.
A versatile and refined white Burgundy, this Meursault pairs beautifully with seafood, shellfish, poultry or creamy dishes. Enjoyable in its youth yet capable of short-term ageing, it reflects Domaine Lafouge’s signature style: balanced, precise and quietly expressive of its terroir.
