Description

Domaine Ninot is a historic family estate based in Rully, in Burgundy’s Côte Chalonnaise, with roots stretching back to the 14th century. Today run by siblings Erell and Flavien Ninot, the domaine covers around 13 hectares, farmed organically with a strong focus on preserving soil health and expressing the character of each parcel. Their approach is both traditional and evolving, combining careful vineyard work with precise, low-intervention winemaking to produce wines of increasing finesse and consistency.

“La Barre” holds a special place within the estate, described by Erell Ninot as a deeply personal cuvée, reflecting her journey, convictions and attachment to the vineyard. Sourced from a single parcel in Rully, the wine is made from 100% Chardonnay grown on limestone-rich soils typical of the appellation, which contribute both structure and a distinctive mineral tension.

The 2022 vintage is vinified and aged in a combination of stainless steel and oak barrels, striking a balance between purity of fruit and textural complexity. This dual élevage allows the wine to retain freshness while gaining depth and subtle richness, without excessive oak influence. Around 10,000 bottles are produced, underlining its artisanal scale.

In the glass, “La Barre” 2022 shows a bright and expressive profile, with aromas of lemon, ripe apple and white flowers, alongside gentle hints of butter and toast from the élevage. The palate is both generous and precise, offering a rounded mouthfeel balanced by fresh acidity and a clean, mineral-driven finish. This interplay of richness and tension is a hallmark of well-crafted Rully whites, placing the wine stylistically between immediacy and subtle structure.

Accessible in its youth yet capable of short-term ageing, this cuvée pairs beautifully with seafood, creamy dishes or poultry. A refined and characterful expression of Chardonnay from the Côte Chalonnaise, “La Barre” 2022 reflects both the personality of its maker and the quiet potential of its terroir.
