Description
Château Boyd-Cantenac 2016 is a superb example of classic Margaux, an appellation celebrated for its perfume, elegance, and finely grained tannins. The exceptional 2016 vintage in Bordeaux delivered wines of precision, freshness, and long ageing potential, and Boyd-Cantenac stands firmly among the more traditional and refined interpretations of the year.
The blend is typically dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc contributing softness and aromatic complexity. On the nose, the wine is expressive yet restrained, revealing layers of red cherry, blackcurrant, and raspberry, interwoven with violet, rose petal, and subtle cedar. With time in the glass, deeper notes of graphite, tobacco leaf, and fine spice emerge.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with a beautifully linear structure. The tannins are fine, chalky, and very well integrated, giving shape without heaviness. A vibrant acidity runs through the wine, providing energy and clarity, while the fruit remains pure and focused rather than opulent. Oak ageing is discreet, supporting texture and complexity while allowing the terroir-driven character to shine.
Château Boyd-Cantenac 2016 is still relatively youthful but already shows remarkable balance and finesse, with the capacity to evolve gracefully over the next 10–20 years. It pairs beautifully with roast lamb, duck, game birds, or refined mushroom dishes. A classically styled Margaux that prioritises elegance, detail, and longevity over sheer power.
