Description

Château Chevessac Pineau des Charentes XO is a rare and sophisticated expression of this traditional fortified wine, aged in oak barrels for at least 10 years. Produced by blending fresh grape must with Cognac eau-de-vie, the wine is then left to mature slowly in wood, allowing time to transform its youthful fruit into a deeper, more complex and harmonious profile.

Extended ageing places this cuvée in the XO category, where oxidation and oak influence bring significant aromatic development. Over time, the fresh fruit character evolves into richer, more layered notes, giving the wine a depth and elegance far beyond younger Pineau styles.

In the glass, it shows a deep amber to mahogany colour, reflecting its long maturation. The nose is intense and complex, offering aromas of dried apricot, fig, and candied orange peel, alongside notes of honey, toasted nuts, caramel, and sweet spice such as vanilla and cinnamon.

On the palate, the wine is smooth, rich, and velvety, with a concentrated sweetness that is beautifully balanced by freshness and structure. The texture is almost silky, coating the mouth while remaining refined rather than heavy. Layers of dried fruit, toffee, spice, and subtle rancio notes unfold gradually, revealing the complexity developed through years in oak.

The finish is long, warm, and persistent, leaving lingering impressions of caramelised fruit, spice, and gentle oxidative character. This is a wine designed for slow enjoyment, offering depth and evolution with each sip.

Château Chevessac Pineau des Charentes XO is best served slightly chilled or at cellar temperature. It pairs beautifully with foie gras, blue cheeses, nut-based desserts, or dark chocolate, and also works wonderfully on its own as a digestif.

Overall, this XO Pineau is a premium, age-worthy expression of the style—combining richness, elegance, and complexity in a wine that showcases the full potential of long oak ageing.
