A confidential cuvée from the Terrasses du Larzac, where patience becomes part of the wine

Some wines are built around a grape.

Others are built around an idea.

The “Renaissance” 2023 from Château de Jonquières is both. Produced in very small quantities in the heart of the Terrasses du Larzac, it is a cuvée where Mourvèdre plays the leading role—a rare choice in a region where Grenache and Syrah often dominate.

The result is a wine that is powerful without being heavy, elegant without losing its Mediterranean soul.

Terrasses du Larzac – one of the Languedoc’s finest appellations

Over the last twenty years, Terrasses du Larzac has become one of the most exciting appellations in southern France.

The vineyards lie at the foot of the Larzac plateau, where warm Mediterranean days are balanced by remarkably cool nights. This natural contrast allows grapes to ripen slowly, preserving freshness while developing remarkable aromatic complexity.

It is this balance that has made Terrasses du Larzac one of the benchmarks for modern Languedoc wines: generous, yet refined.

Mourvèdre – the quiet star of the Mediterranean

Many southern French blends revolve around Grenache.

Renaissance chooses another path.

Here, Mourvèdre is the heart of the wine, supported by smaller proportions of Syrah and Grenache.

Mourvèdre is one of the Mediterranean’s most fascinating grape varieties. It ripens later than most grapes and demands patience from the grower, but when harvested at full maturity, it rewards that patience with remarkable complexity.

It brings structure, depth, and a distinctive aromatic profile that can evoke wild herbs, spice, dark fruit, and earthy elegance.

It is a grape that rarely seeks attention—but often leaves the strongest impression.

A philosophy of balance

Charlotte and Clément created Renaissance with a simple ambition: to find the perfect balance between the character of the terroir and the hand of the winemaker.

Rather than forcing the wine in one direction, they allow the vineyard to guide the style, intervening only where necessary to reveal its full personality.

It is a philosophy built on observation, patience, and respect—qualities that define many of the finest wines of the Languedoc.

Twenty months of careful ageing

Renaissance spends 20 months ageing in Burgundian oak barrels, using both traditional 228-litre pièces and larger 500-litre barrels.

The choice of different barrel sizes is deliberate.

Smaller barrels encourage a closer interaction between the wine and the oak, while larger barrels slow that exchange, preserving freshness and fruit.

Together, they allow the wine to gain texture and complexity without masking the character of Mourvèdre.

The oak becomes a supporting voice, never the main performance.

In the glass – depth with remarkable elegance

Renaissance immediately reveals its distinctive personality.

Its deep ruby colour hints at concentration, while the nose unfolds in layers of balsamic freshness, eucalyptus, rosemary, clove, black pepper, mocha, and ripe dark fruit.

On the palate, the wine is generous yet beautifully composed. The tannins are silky and integrated, giving the wine a refined texture despite its depth.

The finish is long, savoury, and full of Mediterranean character.

A confidential wine worth discovering

Only a limited quantity of Renaissance is produced each vintage.

That exclusivity is not the result of marketing, but of the estate’s desire to produce only what the vineyard can naturally offer.

It is a wine that reflects years of experience, careful choices, and the confidence to let Mourvèdre speak in its own voice.

A renaissance in every sense

The name Renaissance feels entirely appropriate.

It speaks of renewal, of rediscovering a grape variety that deserves greater recognition, and of a new generation of winemakers who continue to refine the identity of the Terrasses du Larzac.

With Charlotte and Clément at the helm, Château de Jonquières has created a wine that is both deeply rooted in its landscape and unmistakably modern.

A wine of patience, personality, and quiet confidence—one that reminds us that some of the most memorable bottles are also the rarest.
