Description
Château Hourbanon 2016 comes from the Médoc, on Bordeaux’s famous Left Bank, a region renowned for producing structured, age-worthy red wines based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The estate is located on gravelly soils typical of the Médoc, which provide excellent drainage and contribute to the finesse, freshness and aromatic precision of the wines.
The 2016 vintage is widely regarded as one of the great Bordeaux years, marked by excellent balance between ripeness and freshness, producing wines with both depth and ageing potential. At Château Hourbanon, this balance is expressed through a traditional Bordeaux blend where Cabernet Sauvignon brings structure and backbone, while Merlot adds roundness and supple fruit.
In the glass, the wine shows a deep garnet colour with slight signs of evolution. The nose is expressive and mature, opening on aromas of blackcurrant, ripe plum and blackberry, layered with notes of cedar, tobacco, gentle spice and a touch of earthy complexity.
On the palate, the wine is smooth and well-integrated, with softened tannins and a harmonious structure. The fruit is now beautifully evolved, supported by subtle oak-derived nuances and a fresh backbone that keeps the wine lively and balanced. The finish is elegant, persistent and gently savoury.
Château Hourbanon 2016 is a classic Médoc in its mature phase, ideal with roast lamb, beef dishes, duck, mushroom-based cuisine or aged cheeses. It is ready to enjoy now, offering a polished and accessible expression of traditional Bordeaux winemaking.
