Description
Château Carbonnieux 2015 is a refined and expressive example of Pessac-Léognan, a region known for combining the structure of the Médoc with the aromatic complexity of Graves. Produced from a blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon, alongside Merlot and smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2015 vintage delivers both generosity and balance.
The nose opens with aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry, and plum, underscored by classic notes of cedar, tobacco leaf, and graphite. With time in the glass, more nuanced layers appear—hints of dried herbs, spice, and the subtle smoky character typical of the gravelly soils of the appellation.
On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with a fine-grained tannic structure that frames the fruit without overpowering it. The ripe core of dark fruit is complemented by savoury complexity and a fresh line of acidity that keeps the wine poised and energetic. Oak is well integrated, adding gentle spice and texture rather than dominance.
Now entering a very attractive drinking window, Château Carbonnieux 2015 shows both maturity and vitality, with the potential to evolve further over the next 5–10 years. It pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef, or game dishes, as well as hard cheeses. A composed and classic Bordeaux that balances richness with restraint.
