Description
Château Gruaud Larose 2022 is a striking expression of Saint-Julien, combining the appellation’s classic structure with the intensity of a warm vintage. Dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and smaller portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the wine reflects both the estate’s traditional character and the richness of the year.
The nose is deep and layered, offering aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark cherry, interwoven with notes of violet, graphite, and cedar. With aeration, further complexity unfolds—hints of cocoa, tobacco leaf, and subtle spice, alongside the signature savoury edge that defines great Saint-Julien.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated, with a dense core of ripe dark fruit supported by firm, finely grained tannins. Despite its power, there is a precision and freshness that brings balance and clarity, preventing the wine from feeling heavy. The oak is well integrated, adding texture and gentle spice without dominating the fruit.
The 2022 vintage gives this wine impressive structure and ageing potential, and while it is already expressive with decanting, it will reward patience over the next 10–20 years. It pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats, game, and robust dishes. A serious and age-worthy Bordeaux that captures both the strength of the vintage and the enduring elegance of Gruaud Larose.
