Description
Château Lagrange 2018 from Saint-Julien is a compelling expression of this highly regarded Left Bank appellation, where Cabernet Sauvignon typically takes the lead. The 2018 vintage in Bordeaux was marked by a warm growing season followed by ideal harvest conditions, resulting in wines of richness, depth, and impressive balance.
The nose is intense and aromatic, opening with ripe blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum, alongside notes of violet and dark chocolate. As it evolves in the glass, classic Saint-Julien characteristics come forward—cedar, cigar box, graphite, and a touch of spice, all framed by well-judged oak.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, with a dense core of dark fruit supported by firm yet finely textured tannins. Despite its power, there is a freshness and precision that keeps the wine focused and elegant. The balance between fruit concentration, acidity, and oak integration is particularly successful, leading to a long, persistent finish with lingering savoury notes.
Still youthful, Château Lagrange 2018 will benefit from a few more years in the cellar but is already showing great promise with decanting. It has the capacity to age gracefully for 10–15 years or more. An excellent match for grilled or roasted red meats, game, and hearty dishes, this is a serious and rewarding Bordeaux for both immediate enjoyment and long-term cellaring.
