Description
Château Troplong Mondot 2018 is a deeply expressive Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé that reflects both the richness of the 2018 vintage and the estate’s modern, concentrated style. Located on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, the vineyard’s terroir lends the wine its signature depth, structure, and mineral undertone.
Predominantly Merlot, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc adding complexity and backbone, the wine is intensely aromatic from the outset. The nose reveals layers of ripe black cherry, plum, and cassis, followed by notes of violet, cocoa, espresso, and sweet spice. Subtle hints of graphite and crushed stone emerge with aeration, adding dimension and precision.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and richly textured, with a dense core of dark fruit supported by powerful yet refined tannins. Despite its concentration, there is a sense of balance and lift, driven by freshness from the limestone soils and a carefully managed acidity. Oak ageing contributes notes of vanilla, mocha, and toast, seamlessly integrated into the fruit profile.
The 2018 vintage gives Troplong Mondot both immediate appeal and significant ageing potential, with the structure to evolve over 15–20 years or more. It pairs beautifully with rich dishes such as roast lamb, beef fillet, or game with sauce-based preparations. A bold, luxurious Saint-Émilion that combines intensity with precision and shows the estate’s modern identity at its finest.
