Description

Château Vieux Renaissance 2016 is a classic Bordeaux red produced by Vignobles Turtaud, a family estate based in Saint-Sulpice-de-Pommiers in the Entre-Deux-Mers region. The vineyard sits on clay-limestone soils that are well suited to traditional Bordeaux varieties, producing wines that emphasise fruit expression, balance, and softness rather than heavy extraction.

The blend is typically based on Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, with some cuvées from the estate also incorporating Malbec depending on the parcel selection. In 2016, a strong Bordeaux vintage, the wine shows a particularly harmonious balance between ripe fruit and structure.

On the nose, it opens with aromas of blackcurrant, ripe plum, and blackberry, followed by gentle notes of vanilla, cedar, and sweet spice from oak ageing. There is an inviting, straightforward fruit profile that leans toward generosity rather than austerity, making the wine immediately appealing.

On the palate, Château Vieux Renaissance 2016 is medium-bodied with a soft, rounded texture. The tannins are smooth and well integrated, giving structure without firmness. Flavours of dark berries, red cherry, and subtle spice unfold easily, supported by a gentle freshness that keeps the wine balanced. The finish is soft, slightly savoury, and fruit-driven, with light oak influence adding roundness.

This is a wine designed for approachable enjoyment rather than long ageing, though it benefits from a few years in bottle to soften further. It pairs well with roast chicken, grilled meats, pasta dishes, and simple French cuisine. A friendly and uncomplicated Bordeaux that reflects the accessible, fruit-forward style of Vignobles Turtaud.
