Description
Domaine Jean Perrier et Fils Crémant de Savoie is a lively and distinctive sparkling wine from one of Savoie’s long-established family estates. The Perrier family has been making wine in the region since 1853 and today continues to focus on the indigenous grape varieties that give Savoie its distinctive identity. This Crémant brings together 85% Jacquère, the signature white grape of the region, with 15% Chardonnay.
The grapes are carefully hand-harvested before gentle pressing and fermentation. The wine is then made using the traditional method, with its second fermentation taking place in bottle. It is aged on its lees for a minimum of 18 months, considerably longer than the minimum required by the appellation, helping to develop finer bubbles and greater aromatic complexity. No oak is used, allowing the freshness and character of the Savoie fruit to remain at the forefront.
In the glass, it has a pale golden colour with a fine, delicate stream of bubbles. The nose is fresh and expressive, revealing aromas of white peach, ripe pear and orchard fruit, alongside citrus and subtle floral notes. There is also a gentle mineral character that reflects the Alpine origins of the wine.
On the palate, the Crémant is bright, fresh and beautifully balanced. The fine bubbles give the wine a lively texture, while the Jacquère brings its characteristic freshness and mineral character. Ripe pear and white fruit sit alongside citrus notes, with a clean, elegant finish and just enough roundness to make the wine immediately appealing. A small amount of dosage gives it a softer, more rounded finish while retaining its freshness.
This is an excellent apéritif Crémant, but its freshness and gentle fruit character also make it very versatile at the table. It works beautifully with oysters and shellfish, smoked salmon, grilled fish, fresh goat’s cheese, light salads or simply a selection of savoury nibbles. It is best served well chilled and enjoyed young, when its freshness, fruit and fine bubbles are at their most expressive.
