Domaine de l’Epinay – Pet Nat “Effervescence Programmee”

32.50

A bright and breezy Pet Nat from a Muscadet house that clearly decided to let its hair down. Effervescence Programmée blends Folle Blanche with Chardonnay for a sparkling wine that’s brisk, lively, and just a little rebellious. Expect crisp orchard fruit, a flicker of citrus, and a gentle fizz that feels more country picnic than grand ballroom.

Description

The Paquereau Brothers (Sylvain and Cyrille), behind this Muscadet estate, wanted try something a little playful. To break the code and rules behind Muscadet’s apellation rules. The result is Effervescence Programmée, a Pet Nat that trades stiff formality for something more charming.

Crafted from Folle Blanche (an old Loire favourite with a penchant for zippy acidity) and Chardonnay, the wine undergoes its primary fermentation in bottle, yielding a naturally sparkling character that is refreshingly uncontrived. The mousse is soft, the fruit profile bright: green apple, lemon peel, a hint of pear, all carried along by a saline flick thanks to its Atlantic heritage.

There’s an easy conviviality here. It’s the sort of bottle that doesn’t demand ceremony, no need for sabres or speeches, just good company and perhaps something lightly fried.
