Description
Château Branaire-Ducru 2017 is a beautifully composed Saint-Julien that highlights the estate’s hallmark elegance and finesse. The 2017 vintage in Bordeaux was shaped by a challenging spring frost, followed by a warm, even growing season that particularly favoured the Left Bank, resulting in wines of purity, balance, and classical structure.
The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, producing a wine that is both aromatic and refined. On the nose, it opens with fresh red cherry, blackcurrant, and raspberry, layered with violet, subtle cedar, and a gentle hint of spice. There is a lifted, almost fragrant quality that speaks to the cooler nature of the vintage.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and precise, with finely knit tannins and a vibrant line of acidity that gives energy and definition. The fruit profile is pure and focused rather than opulent, with red and dark berries framed by savoury undertones of graphite, tobacco leaf, and a touch of earth. Oak is discreet and well integrated, enhancing structure without overshadowing the fruit.
Château Branaire-Ducru 2017 is already approachable, but it also has the balance and structure to evolve gracefully over the next 8–12 years. It pairs particularly well with roast poultry, lamb, grilled meats, and classic French cuisine. A poised and elegant Saint-Julien that favours finesse over power, showcasing the estate’s consistency and style in a more restrained vintage.
