Description

Clos de Bannon 2023 from Domaine Fouassier is a distinctive single-parcel Sancerre Blanc, crafted from Sauvignon Blanc grown on clay-flint and marl soils in the heart of the Loire Valley. The Fouassier family, long-time biodynamic pioneers in Sancerre, work this vineyard with a deep respect for terroir expression, allowing the character of the site to shine through with clarity and precision.

On the nose, the wine is immediately inviting and layered, offering aromas of ripe pear, green apple, and citrus zest. These fresh fruit notes are complemented by delicate floral hints and a subtle spicy edge, giving the bouquet both brightness and depth. There is a sense of ripeness here, but also tension and energy that reflect the cool Loire climate and the vineyard’s limestone influence.

On the palate, Clos de Bannon 2023 is both ample and finely structured. The texture is slightly rounded, showing a gentle generosity of fruit, while a vibrant acidity keeps everything lifted and focused. Flavours of lemon, orchard fruit, and grapefruit peel are carried by a chalky, mineral backbone that defines the wine’s long, clean finish. The result is a Sancerre that feels both expressive and controlled, combining aromatic intensity with precision.

This is a versatile and gastronomic white wine, ideally suited to seafood, river fish, fresh goat’s cheese, or refined vegetable dishes. It can be enjoyed in its youth for its purity and freshness, but also has the structure to develop additional complexity over a few years in bottle. A refined and characterful Sancerre that reflects both the identity of its terroir and the thoughtful biodynamic philosophy of Domaine Fouassier.
