For those who love Burgundy, this is the kind of case that never needs to shout. Six bottles, three whites and three reds, bringing together a selection of elegant, terroir-driven wines from across the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Each bottle has its own personality, but they share that unmistakable Burgundy character we love: precision, balance, finesse and a remarkable ability to express where they come from.
The white half of the case begins with Domaine Florent Garaudet Meursault Vieilles Vignes 2022, a classic expression of Meursault with the depth and generosity that make the appellation so sought after. Expect a beautifully textured Chardonnay, combining ripe orchard fruit and subtle richness with freshness and the delicate complexity that comes with older vines.
From Chablis, Baudouin Millet Chablis 1er Cru “Vaucoupin” 2024 takes the style in a completely different direction. Bright, mineral and wonderfully precise, Vaucoupin brings the unmistakable character of Chablis: citrus, white fruit, chalky minerality and a long, clean finish. It is a wine of energy and elegance, showing just how expressive Chardonnay can be in the cooler northern reaches of Burgundy.
Completing the whites is Domaine Ninot Rully “La Barre” 2022, from the Côte Chalonnaise. Fresh, refined and beautifully balanced, it sits between the mineral freshness of Chablis and the richer texture of the great Côte de Beaune whites. A particularly lovely bottle for discovering the elegance and value that can still be found beyond Burgundy’s most famous appellations.
The three reds take us into Pinot Noir territory, beginning with Domaine Michel Noëllat Nuits-Saint-Georges 2023. Nuits-Saint-Georges is known for producing wines with a little more structure and depth, while still retaining the elegance and aromatic detail that make Burgundy so compelling. This is a classic Côte de Nuits Pinot Noir: expressive, silky and layered, with ripe red fruit, delicate spice and fine tannins.
Château de Laborde Gevrey-Chambertin “Aux Ételois” 2022 brings another dimension, from one of the most celebrated villages of the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin is renowned for combining power with finesse, and this wine delivers that beautiful balance: fragrant red and dark fruit, subtle earthy notes, spice and a long, structured finish. It is a serious Burgundy, but one that remains wonderfully graceful.
Finally, Domaine Rossignol Aloxe-Corton 2021 brings the collection back towards the Côte de Beaune. Aloxe-Corton produces Pinot Noir with both elegance and character, often showing a little more structure and savoury complexity than its softer neighbours. The 2021 vintage brings freshness and definition, making this a beautifully poised red with bright fruit, fine tannins and plenty of Burgundy charm.
Together, these six wines offer a wonderful introduction to the diversity of Burgundy without losing sight of its essential style. From Chablis to Meursault, Rully to Aloxe-Corton, and from Nuits-Saint-Georges to Gevrey-Chambertin, the case moves through different villages, soils and expressions while remaining united by the elegance of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
