Description
A Grand Cru Riesling from Schoenenbourg in Riquewihr, one of Alsace’s most distinctive vineyard sites, known for its steep south-facing slopes and long-lived wines.
Schoenenbourg vineyards are north of Riquewihr, with soils that have a complex mix of marl, gypsum, and limestone. It’s a site that consistently produces wines leaning toward tension and depth rather than fruit.
This 2020 vintage from Domaine de la Tour Blanche shows citrus peel and ripe orchard fruit, with a deeper mineral core running through the palate. Tension rather than softness. It opens gradually in the glass and shows more detail with air, revealing layers of citrus, stone fruit, and a saline, almost chalky finish.
A Grand Cru that will drink well now with time in the glass, but has the structure to develop further in bottle.
