Description

Château Pouget 2000 is a refined Fourth Growth Margaux from an excellent Bordeaux vintage, now fully mature and showing the graceful evolution typical of well-aged Médoc wines. Situated in the Margaux appellation, the estate is known for producing traditionally styled wines that favour elegance and aromatic complexity over sheer power.

The 2000 vintage in Bordeaux is widely regarded as exceptional, and Pouget reflects this in its balance and longevity. The blend, typically dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Cabernet Franc, has developed beautifully over time, moving from primary fruit into a more nuanced, tertiary expression.

On the nose, the wine is expressive and layered, offering aromas of blackcurrant, dried cherry, and plum, interwoven with cedar, tobacco leaf, and subtle earthy notes. With aeration, more evolved characteristics appear—leather, forest floor, truffle, and gentle spice—adding depth and sophistication.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with a supple, polished texture. The tannins, once firm, are now fully integrated, providing structure without weight. The fruit has softened into a savoury core, complemented by graphite, dried herbs, and a lingering mineral edge. A fresh thread of acidity still carries the wine, preserving its balance and lift even at this mature stage.

The finish is elegant and persistent, marked by fine spice, dark fruit echoes, and a calm, harmonious resolution. Château Pouget 2000 is now at a perfect drinking window, offering classic Margaux finesse rather than intensity. It pairs beautifully with roast lamb, duck, game, or earthy mushroom dishes. A graceful, fully evolved Bordeaux that shows the quiet sophistication of a well-aged Left Bank wine.
