Description
This Puligny-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes 2023 from Florent Garaudet is a beautifully articulated expression of one of Burgundy’s most revered white wine terroirs. Sourced from old vines, the wine benefits from naturally low yields, resulting in greater concentration and complexity. The 2023 vintage brings a lovely balance between ripeness and tension, showcasing the finesse that defines Puligny-Montrachet at its best.
On the nose, it opens with lifted aromas of lemon zest, ripe pear, and white blossom, followed by subtle layers of toasted almond, fresh butter, and a hint of flinty reduction. The palate is precise and finely textured, with vibrant acidity carrying flavours of citrus fruit, orchard fruit, and a gentle creaminess that reflects careful élevage. The hallmark minerality of the appellation runs throughout, giving the wine a long, clean, and persistent finish.
This is a Chardonnay of restraint and sophistication rather than power, making it an excellent partner for refined dishes such as roast poultry, turbot, or creamy seafood preparations. While already charming in its youth, it also has the structure to develop further complexity over the next 5–8 years. A classic and compelling example of Puligny-Montrachet from a thoughtful and increasingly respected grower.
